Audrey Brooks Gaines

Serving, caring and giving is how one would best describe her.  She unselfishly devoted her life to reaching out to people who were in need or who just needed a helping hand.  She was a single mother raising three girls; even through rough times, she worked hard, always encouraging her girls to excel in life and never give up on reaching their dreams.  Audrey worked several jobs but never let them interfere with her involvement in the lives of her girls. She always made it a priority to attend school meetings, basketball games, and other extracurricular activities.  Audrey realized having a good relationship with her girls had to include; close communication, respect, positive influence, and affection; her girls meant everything to her.

She opened the doors of her home to many, providing a meal, a place to stay, a listening ear and comforting words.  Audrey raised and nurtured several of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews who loved and respected her.  In the community, she was known as a helper, provider, and a respected citizen.  She always had a smile on her face when greeting people, and those that briefly met her, felt as though they knew her for many years. 

In 2008, Audrey passed away from Lung Cancer surrounded by her three girls and other family members.  Her family and friends miss her dearly and they are very thankful for the joy that she brought to the lives of those she came in contact with.
